"Space Force" ordered by President Trump

President Trump, speaking at a meeting of the National Space Council at the White House Monday, ordered the Pentagon to create a sixth branch of the military, Politico reports. Dan Lamothe covers the Pentagon and the US military for The Washington Post.

"Everybody wants to do it", he said.

The US commercial space sector is booming, while NASA has shifted from its role as a launcher of rockets during the Apollo era (1961-1972) and the space shuttle era (1981-2011) to mainly a client.

Trump added: "If the Democrats would sit down and stop obstructing, we could have something quickly".

Vice President Mike Pence heads the recently revived space council. "And we knocked that out".

"There aren't many things I'm ok with having my tax dollars spent on. but a team of space soldiers in neon colored American flag leotards with jetpacks and laser rifles is one of them". 'The essence of the American character is to explore new horizons and to tame new frontiers'.

Messi misses penalty as Argentina draw
Argentina's build-up play was very slow as they passed the ball from side to side and most often, without any sense of urgency. In a game where Messi failed to respond to Cristiano Ronaldo's 3 goal heroics, Sergio Aguero proved that he is a top marksman.

At a meeting of National Space Council meant to transfer space responsibilities from military to civilian hands, president Donald Trump surprised attendees by ordering the top USA military officer to launch a new branch of the military in space. Dunford Jr., chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, would oversee its creation. However, critics have said the treaty has no enforcement mechanism, allowing the USA or other countries to militarize space.

In December, Trump signed a directive that he said would enable astronauts to return to the moon and eventually lead a mission to Mars. Conceivably the 2019 NDAA that is now going through the legislative cycle could create the Space Force, Loverro said, although Congress would have to give the Defense Department at least one or two years to execute such a large reorganization.

The creation of a new branch of the military can not happen from one day to the next, as Congress would have to pass a law authorizing it first. "At a time when we are trying to integrate the department's joint warfighting functions, I do not wish to add a separate service that would likely present a narrower and even parochial approach to space operations", Mattis wrote.

"It could end up being the most impactful space policy decisions this decade, but we won't know for a decade or more", Brian Weeden, a space security analyst, said 0f the space traffic management initiative. This new branch, which will take on the space role now occupied by the Air Force's Space Command, has seen support and criticism from bipartisan lawmakers and defense officials alike. "Too many important missions at stake".

The council's executive secretary, Scott Pace, told reporters before the meeting that space is becoming increasingly congested and current guidelines are inadequate to address the challenge. Does that make sense? The news came as part of a NASA event to discuss space traffic around Earth, held at the White House.

"The goal is sustainability", Bridenstine said. If President Trump gets what he wants, we may now have spacemen.
