Newspaper says it received threats following shooting

Friends, former co-workers and people who felt connected to the victims took part in a strikingly silent candlelit march Friday night to honor the employees of The Capital newspaper who were killed a day earlier in one of the deadliest attacks on journalists in USA history.

Acting Police Chief William Krampf of Anne Arundel County said the gunman "looked for his victims" in the newsroom.

A shooting at a local newspaper in Maryland left five people dead and more injured on Thursday. Two other employees were wounded in the shooting and have been released from the hospital.

District of Columbia Superior Court records show Ramos sued Virginia-based Enterprise Information Systems in 2014 over lost wages.

Sadly, the fatal shooting in the Annapolis newsroom by a disturbed local citizen with a grudge against The Gazette's reporting from years past seemed chillingly familiar to community newspaper journalists around the country.

The first blasts came through the front door, sending employees rushing toward the back door. The service will be preceded by a vigil for all five of the victims of last week's shooting.

"We contacted police ... and they went out to talk to him", he said.

On Saturday, Salon reported that the accused shooter, Jarrod Ramos, had links to the extremist white nationalist movements of the far right. Our colleagues and friends are gone. It listed the five victims' names.

"He was a loner and usually stuck to himself and was quiet", said Carla Albright, who was in the same class as Ramos at Arundel High School.

LeBron James would 'let the roster come together' for Lakers — Rival GM
If he stays with Cleveland he's due to make more than the $35.6 million in the first year of a new deal 2018-2019. James won two consecutive National Basketball Association championships with the franchise from 2012 to 2013.

The case was eventually dismissed.

Brennan McCarthy, the lawyer who represented the woman Ramos harassed, says he knew how to "walk the line" when making a threat.

Maria said she read the card her late husband wrote but hasn't opened the bag with her present. "I was breathing really loud and was trying not to, but I couldn't be quiet", she said.

Court documents and social media posts written by Ramos paint a portrait of an angry, frustrated man fuming about how he'd been mistreated and maligned. Officers responded in about 60 seconds and arrested him without firing a shot, police said.

Later, in 2015, Ramos tweeted that he would like to see the paper stop publishing, but "it would be nicer" to see two of its journalists "cease breathing".

By Friday, the account was suspended.

"The Capital Gazette is my hometown paper, and I have the greatest respect for the fine journalists, and all the men and women, who work there", Hogan said in a statement.

He said the suspect has not been cooperating.

The Capital Gazette said Sunday that it had received death threats and e-mails celebrating the shootings. He filed a defamation suit against the paper in 2012 that was thrown out as groundless, and he often railed against its staff members in profanity-laced tweets. But the chilling reality is that "kill the messenger", a phrase that goes back to Shakespeare and, some say, Sophocles, in referring to taking out one's anger against an innocent party, is now a very real concern for every working journalist. They found "some evidence that shows origins of a plan" and "continuation of thought", Altomare said, but they did not "find any real motivator".
