Durant, George, Paul all choose to stay put as free agency opens

Durant, George, Paul all choose to stay put as free agency opens

Since joining Golden State, Kevin Durant's free agency has been as anticlimactic as the Warriors' title pursuits. Durant and Green have made it no secret that they want newly structured deals with the Warriors, which has been met with front office approval, though no new contracts have officially been inked. Deep into the tax, that sacrifice by Durant will save the Warriors as much as $29.1 million in actual payroll costs. What perhaps wasn't expected was Durant, once again, taking a pay cut to help the already filthy-rich Warriors. The player who signs it is under contract for one season, and can extend that for one additional season, or become a free agent again at the end of the year.

For the second consecutive year, the Warriors will have locked up one of their star players with a max contract. While $30.5 million is a lot of money to the casual observer, it's actually less than the $35.65 million max that he could have earned. Some of the assistant coaches want him, too. He holds an option, worth $31.5 million, for the second year, the report says. George re-signing for four years - despite the constant conversations about him going back home to Los Angeles and the Lakers - is perhaps as shocking as the Thunder trading for him in the first place.

Reacting to the news, which was first reported by New York Times' Marc Stein, NBA fans headed to Reddit to share their thoughts on what the deal might mean going forward.

The league released those figures Saturday night, hours before the annual moratorium starts and teams can begin negotiating with free agents.

From there, word came down that Paul George was going back to the Thunder, who are now sitting with a tax bill that could choke a hippo while being back to the same team that couldn't get out of the first round a year ago.

Artem Dzyuba then converted a penalty three minutes before the break to pull the tournament hosts level at half-time. The heavens opened up with five minutes left on the clock to add to the drama, which would be decided on penalties.

Kerr just completed the fourth year of his current 5-year, $25M deal, capped off with his third NBA Championship in the past 4 years. He reportedly opted out of his contract with Minnesota in early May.

"Sometimes you don't negotiate".

The defending National Basketball Association champion Golden State Warriors have a total of seven impending free agents.

Trevor Ariza (unrestricted): A valuable forward who can stretch the floor, he's provided solid shooting and good defense for the Rockets over the past four seasons.
