Wimbledon | Goerges sets up Wimbledon semi-final date with Serena

"I do follow women's tennis", she said pointedly.

"This is only my fourth tournament back, so I don't feel pressure". "But it was tougher than the scoreline to be honest". I was just trying to stay focused on my serve. "I still have a long way to go to be where I was".

That is going to change now.

None of the top eight women's seeds have reached the quarter-finals for the first time since seedings were introduced in 1927 - although Williams' 25th seeding is misleading. She controlled the set as Giorgi put no more than 43% of her first serves in. I'm just thinking about my next match, which is tomorrow.

Bidding for an eighth championship at the All England Club, Williams will be back on court Tuesday, but she is seeded only 25th, and that actually represents a big bump up from her ranking of No. 181.

Angelique Kerber clinched her third appearance in the Wimbledon semi-finals with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Russian 14th seed Daria Kasatkina.

But Pliskova, who reached number one in the rankings after Wimbledon a year ago, found some fight and capitalised on a loose game by Bertens that allowed her to break back and level the set at 4-4.

Kerber took advantage of Kasatkina's 31 unforced errors, including seven double faults, but took a while to end things.

Williams stepped up to the line at 5-4 and brought up match point with an ace before completing victory when Giorgi could only push a forehand into the net.

Angelique Kerber is playing her seventh Slam semifinal, and her third at Wimbledon.

The All England Club seeded her there as a nod to all of her past success at the grass-court major, including titles the last two times she entered, in 2015 and 2016. "She can really hit the ball well".

"It's pretty unreal for me", said Goerges, who reached her first major semifinal at a tournament where she exited in the first round each of the past five years. The 36-year-old American, who has spent more than 300 weeks ranked No. 1, looks superb so far.

Giorgi, who chose to serve first, bounced around like a dancer on the baseline and used her fast hands to whip winners behind her serve. "Everybody has the same chances to win that match, and I'm looking forward to it". The two met last month in the second round at the French Open, with Williams winning in straight sets.
