Stormy Daniels' lawyer calls arrest 'politically motivated'

Adult film actress Stormy Daniels was recently arrested after performing in a strip club in Colombus, Ohio.

Early Thursday, Daniels' attorney, Michael Avenatti, tweeted that the arrest "was a setup & politically motivated".

"Just [received] word that my client @StormyDaniels was arrested in Columbus Ohio [while] performing the same act she has performed across the nation at almost a hundred strip clubs", Daniels's lawyer Michael Avenatti tweeted Thursday morning. "She was arrested for allegedly allowing a customer to touch her while on stage in a non sexual manner!"

Stormy Daniels was arrested at an OH strip club overnight for allegedly grabbing the backside of an undercover officer. Patrons rushed the stage and started throwing dollar bills at her. Daniels, who was topless and wearing a G-string, reportedly forced patrons' faces into her breasts and smacked patrons with them, according to the police report. She was released from jail around 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning, WSYX/WTTE reported.

She is scheduled to appear in court for an arraignment on Friday.

Avenatti took to Twitter to respond to his client's arrest and said the incident was "a setup and politically motivated". She performed in Philadelphia in May and last month performed for three nights at a Chicago club as part of her "Make America Horny Again" national tour.

Meghan accused of breaking royal protocol

A prosecutor's memo provided by Avenatti said an OH illegal touching law cannot be enforced because Daniels has only appeared once at the Columbus club. "There has to be a better objective for such resources".

Messages were left with the Columbus city prosecutor's office seeking comment.

"It just seems absurd to me that this is something that would require this amount of resources and would result in the arrest of my client", Avenatti said. "It reeks of desperation", his tweet said. We also expect that she will be charged with a misdemeanor for allowing 'touching.' We will vehemently contest all charges. Rarely used 2007 law Layken Curry, a dancer at Sirens Gentleman's Club, said dancers are not allowed to have contact with the customers and must maintain a one-arm distance from them.

"We have gone back as far as we have records for, and nothing has been found", a spokesman for the sheriff's office, Marc Gofstein, told the Dispatch. Picture: AAPStormy Daniels pictured performing her routine.

Daniels has been embroiled in a legal controversy with Trump over their alleged 2006 encounter, which he has repeatedly denied.

The case also revolves around Michael Cohen, Trump's former lawyer who is under investigation for a range of financial matters, including a payment to Daniels that was apparently made right before the 2016 election.
