Ivanka Trump Blames Family Separation At Border On Parents

Instead, like other Trump administration officials, she implicitly questioned the wisdom of the parents who bring their children to the U.S. border.

Ivanka added that she is the daughter of an immigrant - her mother, Ivana Trump, is from the Czech Republic - and she is sympathetic to these issues.

During an Axios interview on Thursday, Ivanka Trump said that she opposes the administration's practice of separating families at the border, agreeing with other White House staffers that it's a "a low point in the White House".

The president reportedly told lawmakers the night before reversing course that Ivanka had voiced concerns about the policy.

He ordered an end to the separations.

The president's hardline policy led to the separation of thousands of children from their parents.

Trump also distanced herself from her father´s relentless condemnation of the media - attacks that have raised the levels of anti-press antagonism at his recent rallies.

She also said that that while she had "some sensitivity" with her father's criticism of the press and accusations of "fake news", she did not believe the media to be the "enemy of the people". "We don't like the idea of allowing people into our country if we don't know who they are, where they are going and why they're coming", Ms Sanders said.

Soon after the accident, Governor Jose Rosas Aispuro wrote on Twitter that there were no official figures on deaths or injuries. The passengers walked back across the muddy field to the end of runway and waited there for emergency vehicles.

Asked about the comments, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said the president had said "that he doesn't like the idea of family separation".

"We haven´t been unclear what our position is here", she said.

On high points for the administration, she cited the president commuting the sentence of Alice Johnson, a woman serving a life sentence for drug offences whose case had been championed by reality television star Kim Kardashian West.

That failed to fully materialize.

Trump sparked backlash when she posted a picture of her playing with her daughter at the height of the separation crisis.

Last year, she urged him to keep the United States in the Paris climate accord, but her prodding fell on deaf ears and the president pulled out.

Ivanka Trump's husband, Jared Kushner, had an ownership stake in the New York Observer and was the newspaper's publisher until 2017, when he stepped down to take a White House role.

But two weeks later, the president endorsed Moore, who ultimately lost to a Democrat.
