Ohio State Puts Urban Meyer on Paid Administrative Leave

On Oct. 21, 2015, Courtney Smith called Powell, Ohio, police to say she was being followed by a black SUV and to say she was having issues with her "soon to be ex-husband". The first impact that comes to mind is the non-conference game between Ohio State and the TCU Horned Frogs. The season starts September 1 with a game against Oregon State in Columbus, Ohio.

Meyer also released a statement: "Gene (Smith, the AD) and I agree that being on leave during this inquiry will facilitate its completion".

Courtney Smith's text messages with Meyer's wife, Shelley, who at one point during a 2015 exchange said, "I am with you!"

The 2009 and 2015 reports came to public attention last month, after Zach Smith, 34, had to appear in court over a charge of misdemeanor trespassing, over an incident that he claims was actually a dispute with his ex-wife over when and where he was supposed to drop off their son.

Smith told Stadium, a multiplatform sports network, that she believes Meyer also knew at the time.

Zach Smith has never been charged with a domestic violence crime. A hearing has been scheduled for Friday. He had been on the Buckeyes' staff since Meyer arrived in 2012, and he previously worked as a graduate assistant under Meyer at Florida.

According to Courtney, two of Meyer's closest friends asked her to drop the charges from that event, which she ultimately agreed to.

Meyer's extension has a Title IX clause that requires him to report violations of Ohio State's sexual misconduct policy. At Ohio State, for instance, the desk in Meyer's office was angled toward the door leading into the Buckeyes' main football facility - allowing him to see who was going in and out, and when. Smith was a walk-on player when Meyer coached at Bowling Green in 2001-02.

Two weeks after the October 25, 2015 incident, a November 5, 2015 text exchange between Lindsey Voltolini and Courtney shows Meyer talked to Zach Smith about the incident.

Police reports obtained by cleveland.com detail a tumultuous three-year period of domestic incidents involving the Smiths from 2015 to 2018.

"Zach once told me", Courtney said, "if he ever got fired and this all comes out: 'I'll take everyone at Ohio State down with me'".

Meyer continued, "I don't know who creates a story like that".

"I hadn't heard that". The Smiths separated in June 2015 and divorced in 2016. He was awarded with the title of college football coach of the year by sportswriters and television commentators in the form of the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year award and the Home Depot Coach of the Year award in 2004.

Meyer won national championships with Florida in 2006 and '08, but his teams also had more than two dozen players get into trouble with the law. He changed his mind soon after and coached another season.

31 Gators were arrested during Meyer's reign at Florida, and many other acts of violence went mostly unpunished.
