Kalashnikov Made a Soviet-Style Electric Car

Kalashnikov Concern told Russian media that the technology within its "electric supercar" will rival that of Elon Musk's Tesla.

Inspired by a Soviet hatchback developed in the 1970s called "Izh-Kombi", the contemporary CV-1 made its debut at a Russian arms show in Moscow called Army-2018.

The maker of the famous AK-47 rifle this week showed off a concept electric vehicle it says can rival Tesla.

Donald Trump on Michael Cohen: What a Difference 4 Months Makes
Cohen's actions reflect a pattern of lies and dishonesty over a significant period of time", said Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani. Trump's first reaction to the Cohen plea deal, tweeted out early Wednesday, came in the form of a dismissive joke.

"This technology allows us to stand alongside and compete with global electric auto manufacturers such as Tesla", a Kalashnikov spokesperson told Russian news agency RIA Novosti.

The vehicle, called the CV-1, was launched at a Moscow military expo, where its retro design proved an audience pleaser.

The company is attempting to branch out into new businesses including electric motorcycles, off-road military vehicles and robots.

No prices are available for the Russian auto as yet, so it may be able to take on Tesla's "budget" Model 3 ($35,000) on that front.

"We expect that the production of including us in electrical engineering will lead to the development of infrastructure". The company is also reportedly developing a hybrid buggy and an electric motorcycle. According to the company, the CV-1 can't quite hold up in terms of acceleration, managing 0 to 62 miles per hour in six seconds, far behind most Teslas. But mostly the company builds weapons. If it's half as successful as Kalashnikov's most infamous creation, it'll do far more than that. "I don't think the company has the technology or deep pockets it takes to make this a success".
