DOJ official told lawmakers Russian Federation had Trump 'over a barrel'

A Justice Department lawyer whose ties to the infamous dossier about President Donald Trump and Russia has drawn the ire of Republicans told House lawmakers that he was told Russian intelligence thought they had the then-candidate "over a barrel" during the 2016 campaign, a source with knowledge of the testimony told CNN.

Giuliani blasted Ohr on social media just one day after he testified before Congressional leaders on Capitol Hill, saying "What are the odds the DOJ or Mueller have begun an investigation of Bruce Ohr for violating 18 USC sec. 208?" It was not clear from Ohr's interview whether Steele had been directly told that or had picked that up through his contacts, but the broader sentiment is echoed in Steele's research dossier. Ohr is a Department of Justice official who has been at the agency for nearly three decades.

By the time the Federal Bureau of Investigation received the dossier the agency had already started its probe of Russian interference in the campaign, which the Kremlin denies.

As an example, they said, Republicans read a portion of an email in which Steele wrote that he wanted to speak with Ohr about "our favorite business tycoon".

The newspaper added that the effort did not seem to have had any successes; Deripaska told U.S. investigators he disagreed with them on Russian organized crime and ideas about possible Russian collusion with the Trump campaign, a person familiar with the exchanges told the Times.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri
Sarri suggested Alonso's strength in attack sets him apart from other players, but explained that to be considered the best, he will also have to make improvements defensively.

One of the meetings he recounted was a Washington breakfast attended by Steele, a Steele associate and Ohr. "She worked for Fusion GPS where she was paid a lot".

Among the things Ohr said he learned from Steele during their sit-down was that an unnamed ex-Russian intelligence official had said that Russian intelligence believed "they had Trump over a barrel", sources familiar with the meeting told the news service.

Ohr also told lawmakers and staff he didn't read any of his wife's work or the documents that were given to him from Steele, the source said. They said he was being stripped of his associate deputy attorney post as part of a planned internal reorganization that would have occurred anyway, people familiar with Ohr's account say.

Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores declined to comment.
