Donald Trump Threatens To Impose Tariffs On All Imports From China

President Donald Trump told reporters that tariffs on an additional $267 billion worth of Chinese goods are ready to go, in addition to the $200 billion in tariffs the White House has already lined up.

"China, right now, is a far bigger problem", Trump said.

Should the USA slap tariffs on an additional amount of Chinese goods of that scale, the total value subjected to the duties would be around that of total imports to the U.S. from China. But David French, top lobbyist for the National Retail Federation, whose members include Amazon.com, BJ's Wholesale Club and Macy's, said almost every consumer good could be affected if Trump follows through on all threatened tariffs. "Korea mainly ships intermediary goods to China, which would be affected by the tariffs when finished goods are exported to the U.S. Also, if the Chinese economy slows down further, it could hurt demand for Korean exports in the country".

Beijing has vowed to retaliate, if the new ones go ahead. "But I will say this: the world trading system is broken". That would basically cover all the imports from China that aren't already covered.

If the administration moved ahead, it would more than cover the entire value of goods imports from China, according to US government data from past year. These tariffs have not yet been applied, and White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow said that Trump will not make a final decision on implementing them until after he evaluates comments from the public.

Hirono later released the documents , about programs for Native Hawaiians, on Twitter. "My process was fair", Grassley declared. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell dismissed the protesters' "unhinged antics" as powerless to stop Trump's choice.

The U.S. Trade Representative's office received almost 6,000 comments and held seven days of public hearings on the proposed levies.

"Our concern with these tariffs is that the US will be hardest hit, and that will result in lower USA growth and competitiveness and higher prices for US consumers", Apple said in the letter.

Trump said talks with Canada to revise the 25-year-old NAFTA were "moving along" but again called the agreement "one of the worst trade deals in history".

"We are still talking with China on a number of issues". Those tactics, the Office of the US Trade Representative has alleged, include stealing trade secrets through computer hacking and forcing US companies to hand over technology in exchange for access to the Chinese market.

Specifically, Kudlow said, the United States was seeking "zero tariffs, zero non-tariff barriers, zero subsidies, stop the IP theft, stop the technology transfer, allow Americans to own their own companies".
