Former rap mogul Suge Knight set to be sentenced

Marion "Suge" Knight has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for mowing down and killing a Compton businessman in a case that completed the former rap music mogul's downfall from his heyday as one of the biggest - and most feared - names in the music industry.

One-time record producer and rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight has been sentenced to almost three decades in prison for killing a man during a 2015 hit-and-run.

He pleaded no contest on Sept 20 to a charge of manslaughter for a hit-and-run killing.

Knight also struck and seriously injured Cle "Bone" Sloan, who has recovered, authorities said.

"Your unrepentant, unremorseful, callous, unashamed actions took my dad's life away", Carter's daughter told Knight at Thursday's sentencing hearing.

Under the sentencing guidelines, Knight would receive the high-term of 11 years in prison for the voluntary manslaughter count, which would double because he has a prior conviction under California's three strikes law.

His father was sentenced to 28 years in prison last month over a hit-and-run incident following a confrontation on the set of NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton.

A lawyer for Dre responded to the claims back in 2016: "Given that Dre has had zero interaction with Suge since leaving Death Row Records in 1996, we hope that Suge's lawyer has lots of malicious prosecution insurance".

Shakur died on September 13, 1996 after he was shot six times in Las Vegas.

As that news began making the rounds, Suge Knight's son, Suge J. Knight, made new claims that Tupac is still alive and is now living his best life in Malaysia.

"You said to (sic) much", the text message chain allegedly read. The death was captured on surveillance video.

Almost two dozen of Carter's relatives packed the courtroom Thursday. He briefly looked at Carter's family as he was led out in handcuffs following the sentencing.

In January, two of Knight's attorneys were arrested on charges that they tried to pay off potential witnesses in his murder case.
