Kim Jong-un wants Pope Francis to visit North Korea

Pompeo's visit to Pyongyang marked the fourth of its kind.

Secretary of State Pompeo flew to Asia and found himself facing the limits of Trump's efforts to woo Kim Jong Un while confronting China. "There's a lot of logistics that will be required to execute that". "After having a nice meeting we can enjoy a meal together", Kim told Pompeo as they walked down a hallway toward a guesthouse dining room.

Wang also urged the United States to stop selling arms to Taiwan and to cut off official visits and military ties with the self-ruled island Beijing claims as its own, according to a Chinese Foreign Ministry statement.

"When he meets Pope Francis, he will convey Chairman Kim's message that he will ardently welcome him if he visits Pyongyang", he said.

'People don't realize the important of the first meeting, ' he said.

Pompeo's trip was the latest turn in a diplomatic saga that saw Trump and Kim threaten each other with nuclear war previous year only to sign a vague agreement in June to "work toward complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula".

Francis visited South Korea in August 2014.

Though the Vatican confirmed their receipt at the time of an official invitation delivered on behalf of Kim Jong Il by the South Korean ambassador in Rome, the Pope did not in the end travel to North Korea. According to the former official, the North Korean diplomats told him that denuclearization for them refers to a process by which the US also reduces its nuclear weapons, possibly worldwide.

Senators Collins, Manchin back Kavanaugh, paving way for confirmation
That is a state that President Donald Trump won by a very large margin - by more than 40 percentage point, in fact. Trump called the Kavanaugh confirmation process - and ensuing backlash - a "rallying cry" for the GOP.

Pompeo, however, played down the differences.

An official on Sunday's latest visit to Pyongyang with Pompeo said the trip was "better than the last time", but added: "It's going to be a long haul".

Before reporters were ushered from the room, Pompeo focused instead on what the two sides agreed on: the importance of denuclearizing of North Korea. And so there'll be tactical places where we'll have debates and disagreements.

Russian Federation and China both signaled during the U.N. General Assembly that they expect sanctions against North Korea to be loosened as a reward for concessions purportedly made by the Kim regime.

He also expressed gratitude towards Trump for making a honest effort to implement the agreements that were made in their previous summit in June.

Pompeo told reporters Kim had said he was ready to allow global inspectors into North Korea's Punggye-ri nuclear testing site and the Sohae missile engine test facility as soon as the two sides agreed on logistics. It has not taken any steps to halt nuclear weapons or missile development. He came away from it saying the two sides had made progress, only for North Korea to denounce him for making "gangster-like" demands and raising "cancerous" issues. Daniel Russel, the chief US diplomat for East Asia until a year ago, said on NBC.

Commenting on Pompeo's meeting with Kim, South Korean President Moon Jae-in said Kim was expected to visit Russian Federation soon.

Kim also brought up the interactions between the North Korean leader and Roman Catholic Archbishop Hyginus Kim Hee-joong at Mt. Paektu last month, who was invited to join the South Korean delegation alongside President Moon. Moon will attend the Mass, the Vatican said.
